Wild Wilderness Weekend
Discounts on all NATURE/WILDERNESS and TRAVEL/ADVENTURE books all weekend 🙂 plus there will be plenty of NEW ARRIVALS!
SATURDAY EVENTS:
11:00am ~ Jonathan Otto (“Jotto”) ~ Vermont-based children’s author and illustrator will share the books from his Child in the Wild series. The books are a unique blend of playful limericks and lifelike animal portraits that explore the dynamics of animal families. Books will be available for purchase and to be signed by the author. 8:00pm ~ Movie night! Come enjoy the film “Wild” based on Cheryl Strayed’s book of the same name, and starring Reese Witherspoon. Tickets are $10 and include a beverage 🙂 Bring your own chairs!
SUNDAY EVENTS:
11:00am ~ Fred Homer, licensed bird rehabilitator will be in the store to share his bird rescue stories and his pet Barred Owl, Stella! Hear all about the lives of owls and also the rehabilitation and rescue of various birds in our area. Also, kids will have the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet to discover the remnants (i.e. skulls, bones, fur, etc) of the prey that Barn Owls eat…a really fun activity!
3:00pm ~ Representatives and resources will be available from conservation and nature agencies in Vermont. Come talk with experts, gather informative materials, and learn about the non-profits that keep Vermont wild and wonderful. Agencies include: Vermont River Conservancy, Green Mountain Club, Green Mountain Conservancy, Friends of the West River Trail, and more.
4:00pm ~ Vermont author, hiker, and nature enthusiast Walt McLaughlin will be in the store to discuss ‘woods-walking for the heart and soul’ and share the power and wonders of forest walking. His many books on hiking in Vermont, including Forest Under My Fingernails: Reflections and Encounters on the Long Trail, will be available for purchase and to be signed by the author.
5:30pm ~ Join us for a walk on the West River Trail! We will start at the Rice Farm Road trailhead and go out and back – about 3-4 miles, but you can turn around at any point. The south section of the West River Trail is a lovely, flat, and easy walk along the West River with beautiful forested scenery. All ages welcome!
